AUGUST ONE AUGUST ONE When I was a preteenager, I lived for awhile in upstate New York in the outskirts of Buffalo. It was a little place called Sheridan Parkside, and when August 1st arrived I used to feel depressed that summer was going by soooo fast and soon school would start again. Because I'm such an old s.o.b., the time I was a preteenager was lived during the 2nd WW years, and right after that time period... I was 10 in 1947. That period of my life still lives very sharply in my mind. It was a time and place so different from today's world that I sometimes think of myself as an old time traveler. I think the main difference in that world compared to today's time, was the amount of freedom, had. For example I had my own bicycle, and was free to go anywhere I wanted, alone, and without any conscious worry of ever being harmed by anyone. The stipulation my parents set for me was simply to be home for supper. I very much doubt there are living in the U.S. today that have such free range freedom. August One now, means that the hottest part of the year living 3000 miles away from Sheridan Parkside, has been sweated through. This summer on the Mojave High Desert near the largest Marine Corps base in the world--Twentynine Palms, or known in these parts as Camp Wilson-- we've had monsoon storms, and a little 4 hour power outage to get through. My life here in some ways is similar to the life of my youth, because I've alway chosen individual freedom as the most important ingredient for life. How about you? Pretty soon you will be leaving for down south again! So far Aug is good for me hugsssssss V Getting the last golf games before our season winds up! I've been a little off my writing game this year because of getting up before the sun rises to let my Chesapeake Bay Retriever go for a good run before the blazing sun keeps him inside for the rest of the day. I go back to bed again at around 6, and by then it's hard for me to get back to this site, because our day has started and a lot of things start going on... XOXO david
