NVS2 March 2025 - Prisoner of My Parents’ Past

I consider myself about as low-drama of a person as it is reasonably possible to be, so I didn’t really expect to have anything to contribute this month. But it has dawned on me that perhaps I do have a story to tell after all.

I’m proudly a man-whore/slut/insert your preferred term here. When asked why, I jokingly reply that “I’m making up for lost time”. And in a way that’s true! I won’t embarrass myself by admitting how old I was when I lost my virginity. Suffice to say “SHOCKINGLY OLD”. But there is a reason for that. I was reared in a very strict household. And there is a reason for that too.

Growing up my siblings and I thought it was kind of strange that our parents didn’t celebrate their anniversary like the parents of our friends did. In reality, they didn’t (outwardly anyway) note the date at all! But kids being kids, we just moved on along. Perhaps ten or so years ago my older sister, born in early November 1950, did a bit a research. She found our parents married in late April 1950. YUP, it seems my older sister was there at the event too! 😂

These days the bride being pregnant on her wedding day is pretty much a yawner. But in 1950?? Not so much!! Apparently our parents were hell-bent on ensuring that their kids did not repeat their “mistake”, went to great lengths to ensure it, and that is why we were reared the way we were.

It didn’t work BTW. My older sister WAS pregnant when she married the baby’s daddy, but that was in the early 70s, so wasn’t a HUGE scandal. But as for me, I got started late – and I am still making up for lost time.
