It was broiling here yesterday. A half-dozen friends were lounging by the pool, sipping ice-cold lemonade, when Sally walked into our circle wearing her wedge sneakers and shield sunglasses. Bob thought those things were extinct. And that's... how our list began.
We agreed the bubble necklace, feathers in the hair, and faux fur were past their prime. There are probably a ton of others.
What about those things that will NEVER wane in popularity? Things like...
Red lipstick, the little black dress, stiletto heels, tight jeans, Las Vegas, and Champagne.
Someone said, "How about sex?" We all laughed. Someone else mentioned lobster, but the vegan in our crew frowned. "OK then, how about boat parties and BBQs?"
Sally was quiet and hadn't yet offered her nominees until we called her out. Her reply made us all laugh.
"George Clooney in a tux at the Oscars."
I think Sally had a point. I'd watch him. Some things will never fade in popularity. I'm sure you have things on your list. We'd run out of lemonade. Sally had brought a gallon of margaritas in a cooler filled with ice.
Yay, Sally. She'll always be one of my favs.
One doesn't see as many hood ornaments as we used to.
