One local dish here is mushy peas eaten with vinegar.
@SubWithBrains I love beans on toast, that was my evening meal yesterday.
I like splitpea soup not sure of this!
Mushy peas with vinegar? Hhhmmmm I will not knock them until I try them. I like mashed potatoes ... LOL
@Krazyhunguy2 Though mushy peas don't like appetising, with vinegar they're tasty.
Indian as in indigenous people of North America? To me, when you say Indian, I think Asian Indians, as in curry and tandoori chicken 😂
I understand you thinking of Asian Indians not Native American "Indians". Native American is a better name but I am sure there are some citizens of the USA who would not understand what that means. Our education system here sucks.
Yup. Indigenous people to the land. Though you will never train the rednecks to call it an indigenous taco. LOL
Nice taco
I've never heard of an Indian Taco, but we don't have much of a native american populations around here so I am guessing that is why. I feel like pork burgers are somewhat of a midwest (Missouri?) thing at our State Fair.
I love pork burgers. I have had them at the fair. The local restaurants still haven't caught on to them though!!
Hugs!
So, the type of "taco shell" makes them Indian, or is it spices within the toppings? Sure looks yummy !!
I was raised with the base being Indian fry bread. That's the only Indian aspect that I know. The rest is typical Mexican seasoned meat
It has been awhile since I had an Indian Taco. Maybe you can explain what a Street Taco is. I used to think it was an ordinary taco that was sold by a street vendor ; but noticed some regular restaurants offering Street Tacos. Is there anything special in them?
Most street tacos I have eaten were corn tortillas, heated to be pliable, then filled with shredded beef and typical taco toppings. I'm sure everybody puts their own spin on them though.
Yum that looks good I love tacos
They are delicious!!
I havent had one in Years. My have to drive down to Oklahoma and hijack one for my Area LOL
On Tuesdays, we have a couple of local restaurants that have taco Tuesday and will serve Indian Tacos. I guess we're spoiled
It does sound delicious provided the beans are skipped. I have heard of fry bread in some Tony Hillerman novels but I do have a question about the fry bread. Is is made with wheat flour or is there some maize flour in it too? My mother used to make what we called fat cakes which was just ordinary yeast bread dough stretched thin and fried in oil. Usually then eaten after dragging through sugar. Am wondering if it is the same thing but no sugar and then loaded up with more healthy stuff.
I suspect we have some dishes that are local or regional but am drawing a blank at the moment.
We have been getting snow now since about 4 hours ago, is noon now. It is expected to last all day. Still it has only been of the "fuzzing" type and not been enough to make the lawn grass disappear. Not sure if lawns will end up all white or still have grass poking through when it quits. I want a good 4 to 6 or more inches of snow. (On This site I felt I had best include the word snow and expect it to be assumed.) Am still naked but thinking of getting dressed soon and going out for a walk as it is beautiful but cold out. No doubt I will be taking the clothes off when I get back home.
Sending you big naked hugs and caresses and hope you had a wonderful day.
I laugh because the fry bread recipes I have seen use plain white. all purpose flour. Nothing special.
At the Oklahoma State Fair, they will put cinnamon sugar on fry bread and call them Elephant Ears. People love anything fried.
I admire your bravery to go walking while it is snowing.
Hugs!!
Your lunch at the diner sounds delightful! I’ve never heard of Indian Tacos before, but they sound absolutely delicious. It's fascinating how food can be so regional and unique.
I enjoy learning about different regional dishes and the stories behind them.
Thanks for sharing your experience, and have a wonderful day!
Ahhh so Indian tacos haven't made it that far north yet. Though Canada has some of their own unique yummyness.
Hugs!!
Wow that looks amazing and I have always called them Tostada's. We don't have any regional dishes here.
I hope you enjoy a very happy and sexy hump day..
Around here, a tostada is on a crispy, flat, corn tortilla. Crunchy and yummy. Same idea though.
I think that's regional - I haven't seen them around here. Although from the name I immediately guessed that it involved taco fillings on fry bread. Sounds delicious!
The only local specialty I can think of at the moment is a Juicy Lucy, which is a cheeseburger cooked with the cheese inside the the burger instead of on top.
Juicy Lucy sounds fun! Hehehe. I have seen the burgers with cheese inside, but nobody does that locally. I need to suggest it to the local restaurants
I'd never heard of Indian Tacos until I moved here.
My regional food specialty is a "hoagie" from Philly. NOT a "sub", or a "grinder" or "hero". You really can't get them outside of about a 60 mile radius of Philly. It's the bread that makes them special. And if the place you're at says they have them, and do you want mayonnaise on it - run!!
So a true hoagie has special bread? Hhmmmm Now I want one
Hello Pony Luv, I must admit I have never heard of an Indian Taco, well not like you described. Though if the bread isn't fried and you add some tzatziki sauce sounds like you have a gyro. Which reminds me of a drunken night in the city of Toulon France, oh boy. Anyways...
Here in Vegas there are so many places to eat that I do not believe there is a "regional" dish.
Mmmm I love gyros. Or Oklahoma's version of gyro, LOL. There was a convenience store in Oklahoma City that had the meat on a vertical spit. They would carve it off and layer it on the bread, add the cucumber sauce that I don't know how to spell. It was amazing!!!
Vegas is probably a huge melting pot of people.
Fish tacos. Delicious. Most seafood resteraunts down here have their own version
I still have not had a fish taco. One of the chains serves them. Which is probably why they turn me off, LOL. Chaons are not the best choice
I don't know if this is an area thing, or a family thing, but we always ate "Rinderwurst". It's a German sausage that my stepmom would fry. She would make waffles to put the sausage on, add syrup, and eat cut up apples on the side. Yummmmmm!!!
Oh yum! I'm German on my moms side and we had some incredible food. I have no idea what everything is called though, LOL.
Hugs!!
That's interesting, I've never seen a taco on frybread tho I have seen them on naan so I guess that's an Indian taco of a different sort!! I be they're gooood!
The naan is probably healthier, LOL.
That looks delicious, have never heard of in this region. Don't know of anything special in this region....Hugs
If there is good home cooked type food, then it is incredible. I love real food. Hugs!!
@PonyGirl1965 Home cooked for me also.
Your Indian taco looks identical to the tacos over here.🤗💕
You have yummy tacos then!!
