Sunday was peaceful. I did laundry while the Women's College World Series was on tv. The first game was tight and went into overtime. Then OU played Oregon. They were tied for a good part of the game until OU worked some Sooner Magic and got ahead. Oregon couldn't recover. They play again tomorrow evening.

Monday OU lost to Texas Tech by 1. It was a tight fast game. Both teams played well. I am proud of the Oklahoma women. They will be even better next year.
Going into the Championship series is Texas Longhorns vs the Texas Red Raiders. Neither has ever won this big dance. It will be exciting to watch the final games.

A big detail I learned - The Texas Tech pitcher was lured to Texas by an offering of over a million dollars NIL money!!

Personally, I do not like the NIL incentives. I worry one day the highest bidder will simply buy a team and abuse their young bodies. The players make the choice though, nobody forces them.
The flip side - I am ecstatic that a woman athlete is making great money to play.
Historically men make more money. It's good to see a woman be valued for her skills and paid accordingly.

What exactly is NIL?

"NIL" stands for "name, image and likeness." It refers to a person's legal right to control how their image is used, including commercially. In college, student-athletes have long been prohibited from making deals to profit from their fame, so they forfeited their NIL rights by signing on with college sports teams. Three years ago, a combination of NCAA rule changes and state laws restored NIL rights to college athletes, and they've been making sponsorship deals ever since.
