Today I got in my pond to trim down lilies and lift out the tropicals.
The air was 63oF. Water cooler.
I had planned on doing it a week ago. When it was 80oF. Told Cowboy and asked for his possible help.
I went outside later to find him with a hose in the pond. It was down an inch or two. So he was putting fresh cold water in.
I got a little frustrated. Adding water dropped the pond temp. Plus a cold front was coming.

We were hoping it would get warm again after that front. Sighsss ....
The weather people are calling for a light frost later this week so time ran out. I sucked it up and slid down into the pond.
It felt cold on my feet. As I went deeper, it was less of a shock. The water comes up to my breasts.

I started lifting the lily pots up to the ledge around the pond. Trimmed the foliage back to the dirt. Set them back in the water. One had tipped and started settling roots into the rock of the pond. It was literally so heavy I could not lift it. The roots were holding dozens of rocks. I pulled and wiggled it to the side of the pond.

Cowboy fetched the heavy rake. I started lifting and he snagged it farther down. Between the two of us we finally got it on the ledge. Thats when I realized it had grown at least 4 times more than any of the other lilies. The tuber (type of root) had tripled in size and made a baby that was bigger than the original. It will take at least 4 if not 5 pots to hold it all after dividing it.

I pulled all the Taro plants which had made numerous babies. Gonna need more pots. The Canna flowers were also pulled. Cannas in the dirt can usually survive Oklahoma winters. In our ponds though, they say to pull them for survival.

I trimmed back Cattail, Thalia and Pickerel. Freaked the fish out of their minds. Made a huge mess.
I was so happy though. I had survived the cool water, no shivering and not one complaint.
There is still work to be done. For now though, the plants are moved. I can work from the shore.

After I had showered and redressed, I went out to apologize to the fish. I was pleasantly surprised how pretty the pond still looked. No plants were visible on the surface of the water. Yet the jungle all around kept it beautiful. I am thankful.
