SCREWED, BLUED AND TATTOOED

Is a saying my Dad used to quote often, if things were not either going his way or ours, once we got older.It also has another meaning which made more sense to me as to why my Dad would often use it in a lot of different situations..

Unlike the imaginative explanations given, the definition goes way back to early machinists. After inspecting a finished manufactured or repaired part, the Toolmaker/machinist would tighten all parts and screws (Screwed) Use Bluing: a blue paint like stain that stuck easily to metal (blued) and put his inspectors mark through the blue paint with a sharp scriber (tattooed)
The part has passed inspection, it's been screwed, blued and tattooed and ready for release from the machine shop.
My Dad was a Tool and Dye Maker/ machinist for General Motors Canada in Oshawa for almost 40 years.

I was just on one of my nephews FB pages in B.C.when a meme he posted about being heavily tattooed ( which he is) or heavy and tattooed had me both laughing, and reminding me of his Grandpa, my Dad and his quote: Screwed, blued and tattooed. Being my nephew's only Aunt with Tattoos, it also inspired this post and my decisions on getting my two tats that are strategically placed where they are, for a reason..

My Tramp Stamp which has my name written all over it on the small of my back, I got just after I turned 50 and placed where only a Lover, partner or one who has seen me naked could view it, Doggy style of course.

My second one was inspired by both my love of The Rolling Stones, their world famous logo from the Sticky Fingers Album and being Canadian..

I have seen a ton of Tattoos on mostly men with the Rolling Stones logo, yet have not one from a Canadian woman with her countries Maple Leaf on the tongue.

With my Dad's words in my mind both growing up as a Tool and Dye Maker /Machinists daughter, my nephews meme about being Heavily Tattooed or now Heavy and Tattooed, The Rolling Stones "Tattoo You" Album and songs from it I love still, popped into my head..

Along with that were questions of having Tats and the meaning behind them when you decide to get them.. My photos below along with my intrinsic love for the Stones and being a Canadian whose name is Joy had a lot to do with my own..
