Oh my stars!!! There are so many quilts!!! I have never seen that many quilts for sale in one place, ever!! Oh my goodness! I want to stroke and pet them all. Take them home and wrap my naked body in one. Then dance around. Then wrap myself in another and dance. I'm a silly girl. And if they are not too fragile, lay on the quilt and make wild, passionate love.
Yes that is a crazy quilt. They were often made with the tiny scraps left over from other projects and garments. The fancy stitching dressed up the quilt since a non patterned quilt was less fancy. In current times, crazy quilts are often revered for the many different fabrics and stitches. We appreciate them more than ever.
Current thinking in the quilt community is that a basic quilt costs approx. $800 to create. That is fabric, batting, thread and labor. Make it more intricate or bigger and the cost skyrockets.
Thank you so much for sharing your pictures. I could spend hours exploring those quilts. I hope they all find loving homes.
I knew you would be tickled to see these pictures and that you would have spent hours looking them over. I can imagine you wrapping your naked body in one after another and dancing in them. Many were certainly sturdy enough to make love on. I do not know if this store just stores them for most of the year or if the unsold ones are transferred to another store for them to have a special quilt sale month.
You are so welcome. As I said in the post, I knew you loved quilts so I took a few pictures. I too hope they all go to good caring homes.
Sending big naked quilt wrapped hugs.
Wow, that's quite the collection of quilts. Some look really nice.
It certainly is quite a collection which they bring out once a year. Many were very nice, some so-so and others rather worn or cheap looking.
Sending you big naked hugs.
I always feel a bit sad when I see a cherished heirloom quilt hanging at a secondhand store...and always hope someone will want it or want to repurpose it. I watch a lady on instagram who makes jackets and such out of old quilts and they look so nice. I have a quilt hanging in my home that was made for my mother when she was born, and I also have one made for my daughter. Guess I was born during the "quilts are out of fashion" years!
Mom made one for each of us kids. I still have mine but do not use it as it is for a full size bed and I have a queen size. Also the colors are all wrong for my taste plus after a little use a few of the patches started to fray at the edges. Sadly too much of the special quilt cloth sold is of a rather loose weave and low quality. Still it is special to me
Sending you big hugs.
Quilts aren't such a big thing here in Britain.
I believe part of the appeal here in the States is it is considered one of the important Pioneer crafts. No doubt after the unifying effect of Trump making the UK a State in the US of A they will become more important there.
Sorry, could not resist the riff.
Wow! I've never really enjoyed browsing thrift store clothing but I'm sure I would have found something to buy at that event.
Diane found a few nice potholders, hotpads, there. The ones in the bin were the more ordinary items. The really fancy napkins, towels, table runners and table cloths were hung up or folded to better show them off.
Sending you big warm hugs.
