The center soon cancelled the national tour of the new children's musical Finn (which involves coming-of-age themes), with a Kennedy Center spokesperson calling it "a purely financial decision". The public criticized the move as an attack on free speech and accessibility to the performing arts Celebrities who subsequently disassociated themselves from the Kennedy Center have included Rhiannon Giddens, Issa Rae, Renée Fleming, Shonda Rhimes, and Ben Folds. The musical Hamilton, play Eureka Day and various other shows and artists soon cancelled performances at the center. After Yasmin Williams expressed concern about changes at the center, Grenell stated, "Every single person who cancelled a show did so because they couldn’t be in the presence of Republicans," and "I cut the DEI bullshit because we can’t afford to pay people for fringe and niche programming that the public won’t support".
During the Orange Turd's first term as president, Resting Bitch Face shirked her duties to participate in the Kennedy Center Honors, which are traditionally held in the Opera House and followed with a White House reception hosted by the first couple.

It is called the Kennedy Center because after his assassination Jackie wanted to rename everything in her husband's honor. She was finally stopped when she wanted to rename The White House to The Kennedy House. Originally the center was called the National Cultural Center let's go back to that. We have too much of a fascination with naming things after people instead of naming them what they are for because eventually the people things are named for will be forgotten but the purpose will never be.
It is a total bullshit move. If they were really looking to honor a First Lady who was a major patron of the arts then they should name the opera house after Rosalyn Carter or Eleanor Roosevelt. This is once again more of the republican party bowing to the the orange turd and doing anything to curry his favor and stoke his ego.
That's an obscene move.
