OK, more on vocal fry:
@mufdiver69er2 imagine the low creaky voice saying, "OK, now I'm going to stretch your hamstriiiing". ๐
@mufdiver69er2 I TOTALLY think of Valley Girls when I hear it. TOTALLY. ๐
Vocal affectations of all kinds drive me (and probably nearly every one else ) completely up the wall, and yet for some reason an awful lot of people insist on adopting them.
The extra-soft-empathetic voice, the overly deep voice, the simpering girly voice, the affected posh accent, the affected working class accent, the "Important Person Speaking Here" voice, the terrible British-Asian-from-Slough voice adopted by young white wannabe-cool idiots in the south of England, the Knowledgeable voice (often used by people who know what they're doing but are irritating about it. ) The I'm a middle class guy from London but I want to sound like a rapper voice.............I could go on!
@hotdreamer1000 oh, I want to hear the "terrible British-Asian-from-Slough voice adopted by young white wannabe-cool idiots in the south of England"!
@smartasswoman I don't think you'd like it!
Nice sweaters. I like the one on the top ๐
I'm looking forward to your spa tales
There isn't a huge amount to tell, but yeah I guess I should do a post!
I despise arrogance.
Have fun with your bestie!!
Hugs!!
We had a lovely afternoon!
"It's a shame when someone knows what they're doing but they're irritating about it ." So true, so true.
Now I'm wondering if I fall into this category in any area of knowledge. ๐ฌ
@smartasswoman That seems unlikely to me. In fact the mere fact that it is something you would think about means you would probably never do it!
@hotdreamer1000 it's a possibility with knitting. ๐ Perhaps formerly with bicycling, although I was never as gear obsessed as many of my friends.
@smartasswoman No! because you come over as enthusiastic, not lecturing. So even if the reader (or listener ) isn't really interested in the subject, they know you are just describing your passion - not trying to impress with esoteric blathering!
I've never had a stretch session but I have found a deep muscle therapist that I like.
Oh, that's great! I honestly think a good massage would be more helpful than the stretch sessions, but I get two a month through my medicare advantage plan, so as long as they're free...
Vocal fry. So that's what that's called!
Yup!! Ira Glass did a whole segment about it on This American Life.
Spa day sounds AWESOME! And I always love seeing your knit creations. Sorry the flexologists are so hit or miss. I would be straight forward with feedback either to the guy or his superiors that he needs to work on his soft skills. Shame to waste is technical abilities on being such a bonehead.
I'd be a lot more annoyed if I were paying for it, but two sessions a month are covered by my Medicare advantage plan. I just won't book #3 again.
The bathhouse experience was wonderful. After over an hour going from steam room to soaking tub to sauna to cold plunge, we were utterly relaxed when we walked out.
Nice pics. ๐๐ค
And FFS, those voices get on my nerves as well... ๐ถ
Ira Glass did a whole segment about vocal fry on This American Life and ever since then I've been overly aware of it.
I love the way you are wearing those sweaters . The total affect does get my attention immediately ๐
Nothing like a nice hand knitted sweater. ๐
That's what I need a good massage
Most people do, what with the amount of time we spend keyboarding and staring at our laptop or phone.
@smartasswoman fly in to Jacksonville and we give each other a good massage
@Bottemsup4u dream on my dude.
Recycling ... HNW bloggers are eco-friendly! I love that second sweater with the fish toggle!
Thanks, BJ. ๐
I figure people would rather have a couple of recycled pics, than none at all.
Ah yes I scan see how finding someone you connect with that does a good job can be an issue for sure.
Enjoy your spa day
And
Happy HNW
Yeah, it's a first world problem. ๐ Since I'm not paying for these sessions (my medicare plan covers two a month) I shouldn't be so picky. I'll probably settle on practitioner #1, he was fine.
Ya with broken back a massage is almost a must for me
Want a good massage you feel good when we're done hmmm
Nice picture choices. Happy HNW.
Was Practitioner #3 simply hard of hearing?
One of the staff at my gym has a tee shirt that says "Sneakerologist".
I did wonder if perhaps he had a little hearing impairment. But if so, it doesn't seem like a good idea to have your back to the studio entrance when a client is due within five minutes.
