Hehe. Might be time for me to leave the house soon, to avoid the trick or treaters. But then, it's 36 degrees and we had our first snowfall last night, so maybe turnout will be low.

This spoke to me because I've often wondered what's up with the grumpy, morose pictures that older guys post on dating apps. Yeah, I know it's hard to come up with a natural smile when you're taking a selfie. At least try to compose your features into a modicum of pleasantry.
The other day I messaged someone on this site. A very rare thing for me to do! I had noticed his profile a few times - he's a reasonable age (eight years younger than me) and has a face picture - a pleasant looking one! He's interested in tantric massage. I would enjoy having someone to practice that with. The one odd thing was that his profile talked a LOT about astrology, and not just about the normal 12 signs. Nope, he is into Vedic astrology which breaks the zodiac into something like 28 different segments that are called nakshatras! and his profile said he's "zodiac picky".
So we had a bit of back and forth where it was discovered that my sign was supposedly only 39% compatible with him. And also where he said he hadn't met anyone here yet so was distrustful of exchanging off site information, but if I gave him my address he'd be willing to come to my house to do massage (!). Or if I wanted to meet for coffee near his, if we were comfortable we could go to his afterward. I said the equivalent of "whoa mister" and that I don't move that quickly.
Then he sent me pictures of four pages from a book with lengthy descriptions of my sign, Hasta. And after sitting with that information for a day I decided that I would have trouble pretending to believe in astrology for any length of time. Also...I went to the trouble of trying to be respectful of his beliefs and interests, but there was no reciprocation. Did he ask about biking and hiking? Or visit my blog to see what I was about? No. Now I realize I messaged him, so obviously he has no obligation to check me out..but it just didn't seem meant to be.
The bathroom designer and I hit up a couple of tile stores today. Here are the two new finalists. Much safer choices - maybe even boring? The designer said he wasn't crazy about the one on the right because it would look like floor tile on a wall. I'm leaning toward the one on the left, too, since I am now gun-shy of what large patterns will look like on the wall.
We also brought home these - they're actually pretty neat looking, more so than what is conveyed in the photo. There is such a high degree of variation that I think I would want to be standing by the tile setter dictating which tile goes where. He's excellent from the technical aspect of cutting the tile and aligning it, but I don't get the sense that he would be thinking about the best arrangement for tile with a lot of variation.
They're also the most expensive, so that's a strike against them given that I'm trying not to break the bank with this little re-do.

Maybe he wasn't all that interested, but felt like he had to at least minimally pursue it since it was probably the first approach he's gotten here from a woman who isn't a bot? It really is OK if he wasn't interested. When I messaged that I didn't think it was going to work, he sent a nice reply wishing me the best.

I just think it's interesting the way women usually pay a LOT of attention to the aesthetics of their pictures, and a lot of men don't seem to give a rip.
In fact, I did a post about that once, describing the process for taking a picture for this site - men vs. women. It was pretty funny, if I do say so myself.

@smartasswoman Yes, it was dark here before 6:30. They seem to have this competitive attitude....my daughter and I had raked leaves in the afternoon, so they had to do theirs lol. Don't know what the turnout was with the trick-or-treaters tonight - any time I looked out, the street was empty.

Yes, the issue is trying to picture what it will look like covering a whole wall! I think I can definitely live with the one on the left, but I might have found something today that I like better.

Tiles: I like aspects of both of the lighter patterned ones, but none of all the new optoins really stands out in my mind. Some of those slate ones have nice color, but will probably make the wall look too dark. Shrug... Good luck with picking something!
Yes, you captured it in a nutshell...the slate-like ones are neat but too dark, the other two don't really stand out as something special.
Then again, the design that failed really did stand out and that wasn't necessarily a good thing! 😂

We went floor tile shopping Monday. Holy moly. There are a million tiles for bathrooms and such. So many unique patterns and colors too. I was glad I was looking for boring floor stuff

Zodiac guy says in his profile he's looking for three specific "nakshatras". That's out of 27 or 28 total. That would be like me saying I'll only consider men who are 6'2" or more. Unrealistic.
It really is information overload with all of the different tile options. I tend to get paralyzed in the face of so much choice.
I’m only mildly/peripherally interested in astrology… I have a few friends that are really into it (mostly female/fem-presenting)… but my most favorite astrologer in the world (by far!) is Rob Brezsny, of “Free Will Astrology”… I find him to be clever, humorous, insightful and inspiring.

I like the slate-y tiles too, so much so that I brought them home even though they’re more expensive than I wanted. But I kinda think they’d end up looking too dark.
I think I prefer the tile on the left although I really prefer a mix of two plain coloured tiles. It all depends how long you want to spend in there but as its a walk in I guess one could have a party in there.

With tiles that have a lot of variation, I think I would want to lay them out on the floor and make sure that the different colors are evenly distributed - so I didn’t end up with all of the light ones in one area or something. When I had my fireplace tiled, that was what the tile setter did - she removed all of the tiles from the boxes and sorted them from dark to light.
I don’t get the feeling that my tile guy works that way because he put a slightly weird looking floor tile right in the middle of the bathroom, when he could have easily put it somewhere like behind the toilet where it wouldn’t really be noticed.

The "grumpy cat" shots are most timely. With the frigid weather (for October) I'm sitting here editing away on the Alaska cruise shots once again. I just found one taken of me - and BOY do I looked pleased about it! I mentioned the other day that me not smiling happens frequently with my HNW shots, and I blamed needing to concentrate on the technicals and mechanics of getting the shot, but no such excuses can be used in this case.

Candid shots are often the worst, too - I mean I'm not usually sitting around smiling, so a candid shot is probably going to be resting bitch face.
I agree with you on the last set of tiles...it would end up being a dark block against the rest of the shower which is white subway tiles.
The one on the right may be a large pattern but the one on the left is busy. trade off. maybe look at a larger mockup of both?
Yeah I actually did a very rudimentary photoshop where I took pictures of the tile and pasted them on top of a picture of the shower. Basically the pattern on the left looks rather small for the space, the one on the right would be much bigger and bolder…really hard to tell if I’d like it. 🤷♀️
