At the end of yoga class today, the teacher was talking about gratitude and how she was grateful to have us as students. After our final relaxation pose she said, "I left a sticker on each of your mats, you can keep it or pass it on to someone else". I looked on my mat. No sticker. I saw the lady next to me had a sticker on her mat, so I asked her what it said. She showed it to me.
Here's an insight into the mind of smarty. I was wondering if the teacher was mad at me because at the beginning of class I didn't want an extra person from the waitlist squeezed in next to me (hey - I have long arms and legs and some of the poses go off to the side of your mat). I knew that was silly. But I was thinking about doing a funny post saying something like "I guess I'm ugly today".
I was at my locker out in the hallway a few minutes later, gathering my things, when she walked up and handed me the sticker and said, "I think it came off your mat, sometimes when people move their legs it gets pushed off". I don't know - I think I would have seen it when I was rolling up my mat, but they do keep the room pretty dark. Anyway, whew, I'm beautiful too. And so are all of you! (early gratitude post to my readers).

Yes, that’s exactly what happened - probably because I was feeling guilty about not wanting an extra person squeezed in next to me.
Ironically, today I was that extra person. I was #2 on the waitlist and was standing around awkwardly waiting for the instructor to arrive so he could possibly identify a spot where the registered participant hadn’t arrived. A lady in the front corner invited me to squeeze into a small spot next to her.

I agree with BJ. If the stickers all said the same thing, it kind of gives off the impression that the instructor doesn't have any original compliments to give to her students. If she gave different compliments to different people, the person would feel seen as an individual and not as a group.
I really don't expect her to know all of our personalities. It's astounding enough to me that she knows most of our names when it's a rotating cast of 30 characters moving through her class.

I think my mind went right there because I felt guilty about being reluctant to move over. (I did move over...but then another spot opened up when someone didn't show up, and the waitlist lady was able to go there).
This teacher is a real sweetie. She brought treats to hand out at the end of class when it was her birthday.

Here's an insight into the mind of BJ ... if all the stickers said the same thing, I would have found it meaningless. (like being called sexy on A.FF) I think the teacher should have used a variety of compliments...You are kind. You have a good soul. You brighten the day. But ...

That's a really good point that it's a bit meaningless if all of the stickers are the same. Although, I'm sure she feels that doing yoga helps to make everyone a. bit more beautiful inside.
