This was playing on the radio as I make this post and it seemed apropos.
I'm counting the bathroom as done. There are still the replacement vanity doors, but that isn't enough to stop me from moving all of my toiletries back into the bathroom (but first - drawer liners into all of the drawers, that's this afternoon's project).
There was one final glitch - which was when the guy went to re-install my nice cellular window shades, they no longer fit the window opening. They had put new trim around the windows and apparently it was just slightly different, enough that the window measurement is like 1/8" narrower. My project guy said either they'd either buy me new window shades or give me a credit - I'll probably go with the latter so I can take my time picking something out. I'm thinking about fabric roller shades just because the bathroom, while very nice, is a little bland.
OK here we go! As always, if the captions seem off, that means a picture or two went poof.
This is something I initially said was not a necessary upgrade but I'm glad they did it... separate switches for the vanity sconces and shower light (before it was one combined switch), with a little dimmer slide on the side. The dimmer was utilized on Friday when HWD and I took our first shower for two. 🫠 The exhaust fan switch has timer buttons for 10, 20, 40 or 60 minutes.
I was so used to the space without a mirror that when it was installed (one of the last things) it seemed shockingly large and grandiose. I'm getting used to it though, and I like it.
Lighted makeup mirror. Which will be used more often for plucking chin hairs than putting on makeup! 😁 I think I already told this story - when determining scope of the project my designer noticed a magnifying mirror (in same location as the new one) and asked if I wanted to replace it with a lighted mirror. Sure, I said. Then when the project budget was presented for my review I realized the "really nice" makeup mirror was 1600 dôllars. Plus whatever it would cost for the electrician to put wiring there. I went on Amazon and got one that recharges with a USB cable, for 45 bûcks.
The shower with new non-ugly tile selection.
Back end of the shower with a bench where I can sit to shave my legs, and robe/towel hooks.
The shower control is just inside the entrance so I can reach in to turn it on without getting sprayed by cold water.
New toilet, shelf/towel rack which I made them move higher - now I can hang a towel without the ends drooping on to the toilet. The thing on the wall is the thermostat for the radiant heated floor.
And new print...yeah I went for one of the low vote getters haha! The one that everyone liked, turned out to only be available in a size that was a little too large for the wall.
Yesterday I took on the project of moving the bed frame and mattress in my guest room (that I'd come to like) into my own bedroom. It took most of the afternoon. Step one, drag current mattress across the hall to the guest room and lean it against the wall. Step 2, move current mattress frame into the hallway. it ended up being too unwieldy to move in one piece, so I had to take it apart. Which involved three trips downstairs to find a hex wrench of the proper size to loosen the headboard and footboard bolts. Step 3, drag guest room mattress across the hall into my own bedroom. Damn that MF was big and unwieldy. Basically I had to get my hands under one end, pull it a few inches, then stand up and take a couple of breaths before bending it over to yank it a few more inches.
Step 4, pull the bed platform that was in the guest bedroom into my bedroom - much easier and it even hinged in the middle to make easier to get around a corner. Step 5 - wait for new bed skirt to be delivered by Amazon (we need that cute drumming fingers emoji we used to have). Step 6 - launder the mattress cover while I'm at it. Step 7 - throw the new bedskirt in the dryer with the damp mattress cover to try to get wrinkles out of it. Step 8 - apply new bedskirt to platform. Step 9 - drag mattress on to platform; extricate bedskirt that got bunched up by the mattress being dragged across it. Step 9 - reassemble bed frame over in the guest bedroom - this was a real son of a bitch, but I think I actually managed to restore some structural integrity that had been lost over the course of some bouncy bed sessions. 😂 Step 10 - drag the old mattress on to the reassembled bed frame. Step 11 - make the bed in my new bedroom so I can actually sleep in it! 🥳

I know it has been a crazy journey but the new bathroom is gorgeous!
Thank you! Maybe any remodeling project is crazy? (although me not liking the tile and putting a different tile over it probably takes the cake).
A good friend of mine remodeled her kitchen this year and their very skilled cabinet maker (who was the main reason they picked the remodeling company they used) died in the middle of the project. 😬
I'm totally suffering from bathroom envy now!!!! Everything came together so wonderfully, you must be thrilled every time you step in (to soothe your aching back from the bed-shift I'd think!)
edited to add that for some reason my comment won't post. The little wheel spins and the box to comment is unchanged. You may or may not get a few versions of this!
It's still a novelty for sure, I wonder how long it will take before I'm blasé about it? And start just keeping everything on top of the countertop in a jumbled mess instead of putting it away in the drawers, lol.
I like the bath controls location. Nice touch. Looks like everything came out good.
So far, so good! 😊
Your bathroom is gorgeous!! The new tile choice is perfect. I love how it all went together. Your mirror is very glam! I love edging. The switches and variety is incredible. I didn't even know you could have all those options. Super cool. The artwork is lovely too. Your project is worth the time and effort. I bet that radiant floor will be amazing this winter.
The mattress switch - oof!!! I'm proud you did it. Still a yikes.
Hugs!!
Thank you so much. The mirror IS kinda glam haha! The rest of the bathroom is a little stark so I felt I like I deserved a little glitz.
Whew! The bathroom turned out great! But mattress dragging ...egads! I think you should've tapped big strong HWD for help with that (even though I firmly believe that you are perfectly capable - which you were - but I'm feeling my age today)
That probably would have been a good idea. We didn't have time when he was here on Friday night and I was just impatient to get it done, I didn't want to wait for whenever the next time I see him.
Congratulations on your completed modern and luxurious bathroom!
Thank you. 😊
Congratulations of the finished bathroom. I have to say I really the walk in show. The mirror has a touch of art deco which I do like. The entire bathroom is bright . Totally amazing. 😊
I do agree about the bigger bed. There is never ever enough room in most beds. Enjoy the new location to your room 👏
Thank you! The bathroom used to be a small bedroom once upon a time, and has windows on two sides, so yes - it's nice and bright in there.
Congratz on the finished bathroom renovation! 🥳
You managed to change beds having to go all through those steps in one day? Brava! 👏👏👏
Haha, like I said it took me all afternoon. I'd do one step and then take a little break to go do something else.
I like being able to do something like that by myself, it makes me feel (somewhat) strong and capable.
Love the mirror..The whole job looks really good.
Thanks! When I was picking out the mirror, it seems the current trendy thing is a very minimalist black frame, like this:
What with the bathroom already being fairly minimalist I didn't want to go that route.
Whoopsie I see several typos in this post, including that there are two step 9's. 😬
Looks good. How clever that the dimmer is just a small little piece next to the switch.
The bathroom on the Alaska cruise had a radiant floor. Per the suggestion of the kayak guide, I cranked it all the way up and used it to dry my rain-soaked clothing AND undies. (YES, I had on "waterproof" outerwear. That's just how hard it rained.)
Ingenious! I have to admit I'm hesitant to crank it up TOO high because at heart I'm an energy conserver. For now I'm setting the thermostat at 68, which results in floors that are neither noticeably cold or noticeably warm. If I think of it, I turn it up to 75 about half an hour before going in to take a shower.
Outstanding!!!!
Thanks! 😊
Nice... ❗
Good job all around. 👍
Thank you. 😊
Your remodel looks terrific. I'm sure you're gonna love using the new bathroom. It's positively luxurious!
Now I just have to resolve to keep it clean and organized. 😁 I have a bad habit of letting my belongings take over a countertop.
Your bathroom looks awesome! It’s so big and looks luxe, spa like.
You’ve been a busy bee, good for you.
The reason it's somewhat large is that a previous owner converted a fourth bedroom - used most of it to create a master bath, and used the rest to add a closet in the master bedroom.
It previously had a giant "garden tub" (remember those from late 90's/early 2000's?). Now it has a giant shower instead. 😊
Maybe whenever I sell, the big walk-in shower with a handheld will be a selling point for people who need to shampoo their dog. 😂
Looks great
Thank you. 😊
