Unrelated side trip - has anyone watched the Nancy Drew TV series? I guess it's been around since 2019, but I just noticed it on one of my streaming services recently.
This bookworm was a big Nancy Drew fan as a kid, and read many of the books. The concept has been "CW-ified" in the same way as the Riverdale portrayal of Archie, Jughead and Veronica - it's more modern day, the kids are more mature and have sex. I wouldn't mind that, but the only thing that remains of the characters is their names. George was a mannish tomboy - wouldn't it have been fun to make her into a lesbian or even a nonbinary person? But no, she's a slutty diner owner having an affair with a married man. Bess was pleasingly plump - in the series she's thin and has been turned into a homeless person. Nancy's dishy boyfriend, Ned, is still good looking but now he's straight out of juvie reform school. Sigh.
Most annoying, there's a supernatural element. I watched a few episodes in hopes that the seemingly supernatural incidents would get a rational explanation, but no. So, even though by nature I'm a completist, I moved it off of my list.

It's definitely a bit sad, but I'm guessing most of the audience of the CW network never read the Archie comic books OR the Nancy Drew books. It's just old people like me who are upset haha!
I read a couple of Nancy Drews and they were fun. Mostly I stuck with The Hardy Boys. What could we do with that title today!

The 2019 Nancy Drew is not the first time it's been made into a series. Emma Roberts was in one in 2007 ... I didn't like it, it was too saccharine.
And you know I know my Nancy Drew ... The Clue of the Leaning Chimney.
I don't think I ever saw the 2007 movie - at least, I just went over to Wikipedia and read the plot and it was completely unfamiliar (although it certainly sounded like a classic Nancy Drew plot - hidden will, etc).
And you get a prize for knowing which book cover was being parodied!
I had a huge collection of Nancy Drew books. It was always an easy gift for family to get for me. It’s often disappointing when books are adapted for tv and movies.
I had quite a few as well. Also Cherry Ames, who was a nurse.
I think I tried to watch part of one episode once on regular over the air tv when nothing else was on and just couldn't get into it. I read a few of the books as a kid, but actually had little recollection of the characters.
The fact that you had little recollection was probably a plus, since they've completely changed it. 😕 It says something that you couldn't get into it even though you were watching it with relatively fresh eyes.

Yeah I'm just not into the paranormal stuff. A while back I tried to watch that series Supernatural, because it was very popular and it had the cute guy from Gilmore Girls. But I just couldn't get engaged with it.
I love my skull panties but they're starting to fade out a bit...better start shopping! 😂
