Beautiful sweaters, wonderful scenery, why would you not want to watch it?
Well, Padraic's best friend Colm decides he doesn't want to be friends anymore because Padraic is too "dull" to waste his time with. Padraic keeps trying and finally Colm tells him, "If you don't leave me alone I'm going to cut off one of my fingers". And he does it.
Then later in the movie Padraic goes to visit him again, so he cuts off the REST of his fingers. And throws them into Padraic's yard. Whereupon Padraic's beloved donkey Jenny tries to eat one, chokes and dies.
Bet you didn't see THAT coming.
Oh Iโm gonna watch it
It was dark.
Especailly when those fingers started to come off.๐ถ
@Paulxx001 REAL dark. ๐ฌ
@ULikeOral1971 the collars on the sweaters were a quirky touch. I don't particularly like them either, but I wonder if that was a thing back in the 1920's?
They all look soooo comfy!!!!
Especially the first two. I'm not sure about the tucked in look on #3, although it's very GQ!
@smartasswoman agreed, the tucked in look gives weird vibes... but I'd wear it untucked for sure!
Don't mind me, I'm here because I couldn't remember the name of the movie and tonight's the night
Come back when itโs over and let me know what you thought. ๐
@smartasswoman will do
@smartasswoman You were right, it was a gorgeous movie. Stunningly shot, the countryside and choices of wide angles just took my breath away.
As for the movie, I feel so bad for Dominic, just awful. And, agree with Siobahn when she said. "You're all dull". The whole thing seemed like one overreaction to the next with the climax of the house.
Nick asked, what are you watching? Me: This weird but gorgeous movie.
@EnigmaInitiative even the burning house was gorgeous! Ha.
@smartasswoman it sure was
Wow....i love em ALL. The cables, the colors , the collars...ALL of it.
I like best of all, that they are employing this senior...for doing something she loves ( hopefully ).
Just reminds me of the Bernie Sanders mitten craze....her etsy site quickly sold out n shut down for a while. I don't know if she was and elder or not though .~
I love the back story of the 83 year knitter too. Hereโs her picture.
@smartasswoman My goodness , look at that style hers handling those fine needles. My Hats off to you lady ~
I watched it not knowing how dark it was going to be exactly. It's a Scottish setting, so I had to watch. Wish I'd have known about the sweaters when I did, so I'm glad you included pics. They are really beautiful.
I found the spelling of Pร draic an interesting one. In Gaelic, "g" is often used at the end of a word to get a "c" sound. Padraig. But I suppose as is the case in many places in Scotland, local dialect would be an influence for not just pronunciations but also for spellings.
I donโt know if I got the spelling right! I always use subtitles and after reading your comment Iโm thinking maybe the subtitles said Padraig. I do remember thinking that his pronounced name when other characters referred to him, wasnโt anywhere close to the spelled name I was seeing in the subtitles.
I too, had no idea where the plot was going when I started watching. I suppose I should have watched the preview because that gives it away!
@smartasswoman I looked up the name on IMDB before I commented...Lol. And Gaelic is like that...lots more letters than you think there should be and not pronounced how we do in English at all.
The blue turtleneck is glorious! I love the color and cables.
Itโs a fantastic color. Brighter than navy blue but more muted than royal blue.
I like Colin Farrell. Whenever I read his name or see him in a list of actors I remember one story. "Dame Eileen Atkins says Colin Farrell - some 42 years her junior - spent more than two hours trying to seduce her." I don't blame him- Atkins was and is da bomb, even at seventy years old.
"Asked about her sex life on the ITV chat show Loose Women, she said: 'I was doing a movie and three weeks before my 70th birthday, a simply stunningly gorgeous big film star aged 28 years old, came into my hotel room for sex without strings."
Atkins is living proof that sexy is an attitude, a demeanor, and she has it in spades. The knitting is wonderful but not even my brow is knitted here. I get it completely.
Does this mean I have a chance with him? I'm only 66 after all, and he's 10 years older than when that happened.
@smartasswoman Of course! I'm not sure if he'll let you flog him though. I reckon it's negotiable. He may have a stunt double for that.
@kzoopair itโs not a hard requirement for me to be able to flog someone (just that theyโre ok with me doing that with someone else if it doesnโt interest them ๐ ).
I admire the craftsmanship that went into the making of those sweaters and can envision how warm and cozy they are. Your synopsis of the movie will ensure that I wonโt be adding it to my โmust seeโ list.
That plot is not for everybody, that's for sure. That's why I felt I had to give a warning about it. I figured it came out something like two years ago -likely anyone that's interested in a dark Irish movie has already seen it.
Nice sweaters. Great movie. Really great acting
Yes, the acting in the movie was fantastic.
@smartasswoman
All of them
Guess I'm not much of a sweater person. Those didn't do much for me ... though I did like the blue color.
The first two are fairly simple. The dark red one really is unusual and stunning but I wouldn't ever wear something like that.
Oh, so you watched the movie for the sweaters and not for hoping to see a repeat of Barry's schlong waving dance scene. ๐คฃ
After seeing the "there goes that dream" clip I was pretty sure there wasn't going to be any carefree naked dancing.
Those are some really nice sweaters. Sadly, I just donโt need sweaters here because I really like them.
There are options...you could wear something light like this during the winter in Florida. But perhaps it's the nice chunky toasty ones that you're missing.
@smartasswoman yeah I like the big chunky ones
Or one could pick a dormant post and conduct a convo behind page three.
By the way...
I believe we've concluded our findings about those badges, if you were still interested.
What Are Blog Badges and What Are They Used For?
Oh, and I left a very personal message for you on my Public Mailbox. ๐ถ
Public Mailbox
Yes, I think that could be a very valid strategy. Although Iโd be leery of saying anything TOO gossipy. That seemed to mostly be what my message box was used for. NOT as a way to make assignations with standard members.
Wonder if the actors got to keep the sweaters? ๐ค
Ooo great question!
I'm wondering if I can comment here.
Yes, you can. Itโs just the โprivateโ posts (what a lot of bloggers call their message box) that are now restricted.
