Wow what a body sweetie!
Reminds me of the time when I went to see Flashdance at the movie theater and the scene where she’s eating lobster and says “it sucks” was literally translated as “something to suck on (but in Japanese)” 😂
So I'm guessing the equivalent of "this sucks" isn't an idiom in Japan?
@smartasswoman
Had the translator been versed in American slang, it could've been translated as "it tastes bad" or "it's the worst." Back in the 80s, Japan wasn't as international as it is now and slang never translated very well. It's much better nowadays.
Happy HNW
Communists in the funhouse?!?! LOLOL
Great pic of you
Well, Communists are red, right?
And thanks!
Happy HNW!
Happy HNW! I like the lingerie! Oh my gosh the most mean nasty thing on the planet is a girl in 6th or 7th grade. Both my girls struggled during this time. Doesn’t seem like the empathy has developed yet.
I do remember some nastiness during junior high. I’m just so glad that social media wasn’t around when I was going through it. Although our equivalent was a “slam book” which was a spiral notebook with a page for each kid that got passed around, where everyone got to anonymously write their thoughts about everyone else. And then when it got to you, you got to see what everyone thought of you. Ugh! 😣
I wonder whether Donald Trump has Denmark in mind when he calls Kamala Harris a communist. He does seem fixated with Denmark or at least Greenland.
Happy HNW!
Oh my I forgot about the Greenland thing. That guy…you have to wonder how historians will look back at this.
@smartasswoman His offer to buy Greenland didn't go down well in Denmark, and it's not as if he consulted Greenlanders before making his offer.
I can't say how historians will see Trump in decades or centuries to come. At the moment, I'm just hoping historians will have a role in the future.
I suspect Trump will be more than a footnote, even if I hope he is. I'm of the view, as you know, that Trump is a fascist. He passes all the fascist tests - a hatred of the other, a belief that there's a superior race/people, a narrative of a country not being great because of other countries/peoples, a disdain towards all 'independent' institutions like the judiciary and the media, an instinct to withdraw from the world, a total disdain for the truth and facts, and a support base (a private militia if you like) who'll commit violent acts to keep him in power.
@CarriedBack yeah I’m not real hopeful that we’re going to deal with global warming. 🫤
Leave it to the Scandinavians to nail it when it comes to getting the message across in an understated manner.
That series might be fun, but not fun enough to read all the dialog.
Cheap? Perhaps, depends on where you bought it. But if that is your idea of sleazy, I'm quite disappointed! 😀
Happy HNW.
Not into subtitles eh? Quite a bit of my watching requires subtitles. It interferes with knitting and watching haha!
I recently tumbled into Fargo, season one, and thought of you. Although, if I recall — you denied having an accent and — I didn't need subtitles to follow along. 🤗
Sexy pic. 🔥💕
Fargo is an absolutely fantastic series. I hope you go on to watch the other seasons. A lot of people don't like season 4 but I still thought it was worthwhile, if only for an amazing black and white tornado scene (homage to Wizard of Oz?).
I'd like to think my accent isn't as exaggerated as in the movie and series, but I will admit to meeting people while traveling and having them comment on my Minnesota accent. I think I've got the long O thing going on. 😒
@smartasswoman
I got sucked into binge-watching ALL the seasons. They each had something special going on.
And true, about that long O: that's what i noticed. 🤗
Looking up the show as I type, thanks for recommendation! I can't remember who said "Don't try to understand women. Women DO understand women and they hate each other". It's funny how there's nothing stronger than sisterhood and yet the cattiness too. I don't have many female friends because of that switch, and I honestly can't even tell you what caused it.
Btw, great HNW post and whilst the lingerie might not have been your cup of tea, I really like the pic. Even the blurriness and the angle gives a whole "just walked in and found you like this" effect and it's HOT.
Happy HNW! 🩷
One of the things that I really liked about the book (and the show) is that a lot of the main characters' competition is around school. They are the smartest of their class. For one of them, her parents begrudgingly scrounge up the money to go on to middle school and high school. The other one's parents do not, and she ends up working in her dad's shoemaker shop. But she becomes self educated by checking a constant stream of books out of the library. Girl #1 feels superior because she is going to learn Greek in HS, only to find out that her friend has already learned it on her own!
They also both become involved with the same man (at different times) but that is only a small part of their competitiveness.
@smartasswoman Already hooked! Gonna see if my "half price books" can get a hold of it for me 🤓
