Just a few photos/GIFs from a trip to the Arboretum to see their lights display. As I commented to HWD, this is maybe a once every five years thing for me. They repeat a lot of the displays from year to year. Which I certainly can understand, but it's not much incentive to go back next year when it's a long drive out there and costs $10 per person even with a membership (non-members pay $30! no way would I do that, especially for a family).
Sorry, didn't mean to get negative haha! I don't begrudge them the opportunity to make some money, especially in midwinter when their admission fees must drop way down. And we had a nice time.
The apple and the bright white tree with descending icicles were new, so those were fun to see.
New Year's Eve was quiet. HWD was called on by his (ex) sister in law to help out. Her mom (his daughters' grandma) has been ill, and just got out of the hospital but was still vomiting from time to time. Ex SIL was unable to spend the whole evening with grandma because she manages an event facility and of course, there was a NYE party going on there. So, HWD went over to grandma's around 5 pm, stayed with her for a few hours. Then ex SIL came back from the event, and they swapped places - HWD went to the event to work. Which ended up lasting past 2 am by the time they did cleanup!
Meanwhile I watched the new netflix thriller Carry-On (dumb fun, I'd give it a three out of five) and then decided as long as I was watching Christmas-themed terrorist movies, I should watch Die Hard. It was available on the free Roku channel. Well, I was about 3/4 of the way through it when suddenly it stopped and went back to the home screen for the movie, where there was a message, "Title not available. Save it if you want to watch again in the future". I looked at the clock. It was two minutes past midnight. So I assume Roku only licensed the viewing rights for the year 2024? 😂 Kind of shitty for them still to be promoting the movie to me on my home page, if there wasn't enough time remaining to watch the whole thing. (singing to myself, "Let it go...let it go!" ).

Love the lights pics! That's funny that your movie shut off like that, I've had that happen once with a movie that was on Youtube, we paused it and when we hit play to restart it, it was gone! I figure it was probably a copyright infringement issue and they caught it just as we were watching.
Copyright infringement totally makes sense as an explanation with Youtube. I discovered the movie is also carried on Hulu so I watched the last 20 minutes last night...

Some of those holiday things are pricey, but I also figure it is a once a year thing. I have wanted to go see similar displays in St. Louis and near KC but haven't yet. I've already made a note that I want to find a time to do it next year.
True, if nothing else it's good to have a reason to get out and get some fresh air! I do tend to hunker indoors at this time of year.

Awesome display. Too bad they don't change things up every year.
Parks here do a new theme every year. They might re-use the lights itself but the displays are always different. All the more they have people visiting every year.
I get why they re-do some of them (the water lilies in particular, I remembered from the last time I went). I'm sure it's ton of work to weld the frames that hold the lights.

Nice shots and lucky you to have a wee bit of snow. I assume this visit was fairly recently meaning you timed it well to coincide with the Arctic blast!
We have two similar displays each year, one at the zoo and one at the botanical gardens. And YES, both a kind of pricey - and CROWDED. But I've found though that when most people spot my tripod they're quite mindful of not photo bombing. Must be the holiday mood! 😀

It is a very wee bit of snow. We had 5-6" a couple weeks ago, then it warmed up and also rained so most of it disappeared. We went last Monday and the weather here wasn't too bad, low 30's.
Remember that song very well....I am thinking they might have been a bit too optimistic....lol.... Thanks for the light show....saves me a whole lot of money. Happy New Year smartasswoman.
