Oh my! Quite the adventure.
I had something like 11 different hotels in the 13 nights of my trip. Some good blog fodder there for sure, once I catch-up enough to write about it.
Looking forward to hearing about it!
You literally used planes, trains, and automobiles to escape the city 😂
Of all the days to have a bike race 🙄 Why weren't the cops closing off the roads giving out this info? 🤨
I did a post about this in a travel group I’m in on FB. One of the commmenters said the Uber driver (and I ) should have known about it because they post signs in the city during the days before. I beg to differ. I was walking around Manhattan for a week before the event and saw nothing.
@smartasswoman
The signs were probably posted in city hall or somewhere people have to look for to find 🙄
I was just thinking about how much more crazy this would have been say, 25 years ago when we didn’t all carry pocket size computers with a public transit app and a Delta app and a Hotels Tonight app. I think I would have been crying, for sure.
You would've been at a pay phone frantically calling the airline.
@JN63JPN I know, ugh. I actually did try to call Delta at one point thinking it might help to talk to a live person. But got the usual recorded message saying “we’re experiencing high call demand right now” so I hung up and figured it out for myself on their website.
What a journey! Sounds like New York gave you everything—culture, chaos, and a final test of patience. Hopefully, your trip home was smooth, and you can finally rest after such an eventful trip!
Everything in NYC is BIG. Big crowds, huge museums that take all day to see properly, huge artistic productions. It was quite a week. I am happy to be home.
I would have probably not handled that nearly as well as you did. Congrats on finally escaping!
Thanks! It was really nice to get home today. Everything has greened up and my daffodils are blooming.
@smartasswoman my peonies opened today here 😀
That day sounded very stressful. I hope you manage to escape New York without further ado.
Me too! Fingers crossed.
Oh my word. You are a saint having so much patience for chaos. It's unreal that they would block half of Manhattan from traveling. I would have assumed they left one street for folks to cross over. New Yorkers are very tolerant. I hope you get home safely and peacefully.
Hugs!!
It was ALL of Manhattan. I was amazed.
The bike thing was probably over Sunday so Monday should (fingers crossed) be safe for an Uber.
That’s what I’m telling myself! Trying not to be my usual worrywart self.
I live for the retired lifestyle that would allow me to not "have" to be back if something went wrong. I like that you didn't panic. I might have been more like your Uber travel passenger. I get really stressed about getting to the airport on time. I might have just spent the night in the airport...Lol.
I lean in your direction of anxiousness. For example, it was a five minute walk to the shuttle pickup point and I left my room 15 minutes before the pickup time. Just in case, you know, I couldn’t get an elevator to the lobby or there was some hang up checking out (they just said “thanks” and waved me off). 😂
@smartasswoman Yep...I'm familiar with that...Lol.
