To my parents: There was not a lot of huggy affection in our WASPy household, but I thank you for getting me off to a good start. Urging me to study up to my potential, letting me try things and give them up (like violin and swim team), paying for my college tuition.
To anyone who decided to move to the Southwest US or Florida during the last five years (including my own sister, who settled down in Arizona) - Have you not heard of climate change? Are you SO averse to winter that you’ll trade it for strings of 120 degree days, or the risk of having your home destroyed by a hurricane?
To the new Pope - how weird does it feel to be leading a low profile, holy life and then suddenly be a HUGE celebrity?
To any company that I agreed to receive messages from in exchange for 15% off of my first purchase - do you realize that if you send me emails EVERY FREAKIN DAY SOMETIMES EVEN MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY I’m going to quickly resort to deleting without reading? And not long after that I’ll unsubscribe entirely?
To myself - every mattress you tried out felt three times better than what you have at home. Just pick one and stop with the analysis paralysis.
To 40Deuce: you were my only AFF connection who was truly a friend with benefits. I really appreciate that we’ve kept in touch since you found yourself a great girlfriend who was closer to your age and wasn’t 250 miles away. Now that we’ve been emailing longer than we were involved in the first place, I wonder if she’d be secure enough for us to see each other? It would be fun.

I have a sis who lives in Portland OR, and in the 2+ decades she's been out there, the extremes even by PDX standards have gotten weird. No homes there have central ac because the never needed it...until recently. They now get regular winter storms that paralyze the city for a couple days -- unheard of when she moved out there. But it's still a gorgeous area that I'd not turn down an job if offered.
Yup they had a stretch in the 100’s sometime during the last couple years, didn’t they? That’s got to be miserable without AC.
@smartasswoman She and hubs invested in a portable ac unit so they can manage. Last time I was out there during a "heat wave" I stayed in a hotel...and they stayed with me
Instead of unsubscribing, I filter messages to straight to Trash marked as read. Messages in Trash get deleted automatically after 30 days anyway. I'll still be on their mailing list but I never see the messages.

My first reaction upon seeing your wordlie picture was "why does this look so familiar?" I then realized I'm probably not the only person who starts every wordlie with adieu and how yesterday's puzzle ended my second longest run. My last run a couple months ago ended when I made a list of 4 possible solutions. I had three chances left. Yup, didn't choose correctly that time either.
I’m thinking there’s probably a strategic choice to use when you end up with _A_ER (or _O_ER etc). Something that would have the two consonants that appear in the most possible combinations. Next time I might sit down with a piece of paper and try to figure it out.
My most frequently used starter word is SLATE but I do mix it up every other day or so.
@smartasswoman Slate, will have to try that some day soon. It uses the letter "s" and "t" right off the bat.
Great 7. About Wordle...I hadn't noticed an affinity for those. Lol. I just lost (yesterday) my 40+ something day streak. Ticked me off. I'm glad you are still in touch with 40Deuce...but that might be a big ask.

Yes, it would be a big ask especially since we live a 4-5 hour drive away from each other! I guess if I ever am on my way somewhere and going through Des Moines, I’ll ask if he’d be up for having coffee.

Yeah, you are in the middle. And hey if I’m not mistaken you’ve lived there for a long time - it’s not like you decided to move there recently. I understand people who decide they want to stay put in a long time home. It’s the ones who retire and think it’s a great idea to go somewhere that’s insanely hot and might have trouble getting enough water in the future.
Maybe I’m full of shit - it would be interesting to compare how much energy I use to heat my house during the cold season vs. how much someone in Arizona uses for their AC.
@smartasswoman My energy bills clearly show heating is VASTLY more expensive than air conditioning - like 2X.

@smartasswoman I'm now interested how you going to reply to citizen's comment above. His team did lose in the FA Cup Final, the oldest football competition in the world. But Crystal Palace, formed over a hundred years ago, won, the first time they've ever won a trophy in their lifetime. Just reply smash and grab to him!
