It's my birthday today. I'm hoping for a hot curry at an Indian restaurant later this evening. I've already been given wine as birthday presents - not quite fine wine but at least palatable wine.
Given this week's theme for Half Nekkid Wednesday, August 07 : Swimwear, I decided to don my swimwear today and go for an early morning and a lunchtime swim in honour of the Olympic open water swimmers. Above and below is purportedly me swimming in the nearby River Trent. It's often been said the the Trent is the Hudson River of the East Midlands!

Happy birthday. Since you mention the Hudson, My friend is participating in a swim across the river, from NJ to NYC. I also watched, with interest, the Olympic triathlon swim segment in the Seine. One of the Americans microdosed with e.coli to prepare. You will not catch me swimming in a river like that at anytime.
