Putting meat or melted cheese on toast makes it an open faced sandwich in my world. It ceases to be toast with a topping.
My grandmothers go to dessert was toasted, homemade bread with jam, jelly or marmalade. Sweet but not overly fatty. She was a smart lady
Hugs!!
An open-faced sandwich, if the bread is toasted, counts as a topping on toast here. We just call it whatever on toast.
I like spreading butter, garlic and Parmesan cheese on my toast.
That's an interesting and appetising combination.
@spunkycumfun I call it the poor man's garlic toast
@CallMeMrWrong69 That's rich in my book!
Your food battle posts continue to remind me of what a simple, perhaps unadventurous, eater I am. For me toast is topped with butter, and maybe some fruit jelly.
Yes some jam is good like strawberry, or apricot pineapple.
I've just eaten four slices of toast with butter and marmalade on.
I voted for marmalade (orange or grapefruit) although I do like the following combinations as well: butter with slices of salted banana, pesto with mozzarella, peanut butter with cheddar cheese, cream cheese with honey, melted butter with demerara sugar and cinnamon.
Marmalade is classic. It doesn't seem to be so popular in America.
Cinnamon always
I've never had cinnamon on toast but it sounds good. Thanks for stopping by.
Butter for me, but I very rarely have toast. I never knew there were so many toppings. Beans are probably the last thing I could imagine as a toast topping. They must be a messy treat.
Baked beans on toast have to be eaten with a fork and knife.
I like butter on toast with a sprinkle of sugar on it, in my family we never really had jam so if we wanted something sweet we'd just add sugar & have it with milk or coffee.
I guess my least favorite is avocado on toast mostly because avocado was something we'd eat with tortillas, so to me avocado tastes best with tortillas. I still remember my family was upset when avocado got popular because then we couldn't afford to buy as often & it's such a staple in Mexican cuisine as well as filling when we didn't have much to eat with how little money we had.
I've never had sugar on buttered toast. I've had a sugar sandwich though when I was a kid.
I have two favourite toppings; however, the toast must be prepared differently. For jam, raspberry or strawberry preferred, the toast has to be very dark, almost burnt. For peanut butter, the toast has to be very light, almost just warmed over.
Weird? Yes, I know. My wife has been telling me that for close to 40 years.
I wouldn't call it weird, you just know how you like tour toast for different toppings.
@spunkycumfun Thanks. The toast; however, is simply the tip of my weirdness iceberg. I'm comfortable with it . . .
@RUmytranny There's nothing wrong being weird. We're all weird in varying degrees.
So many words I've never heard of going on toast! Very interesting. I found a Cherry Jam at an Amish bakery, so my favorite right now is real butter, and the Cherry Jam.
I've never had cherry jam. I must give it a try.
Never been a fan of toast , does egg fried bread count as toast ?
Unfortunately it doesn't count even though I'm a big fan of eggy bread.
@spunkycumfun Best french invention, or is it british ?
@taurean62dbn I think it's French but I can't be sure.
Had 2 slices of toast yesterday lunchtime, one with beans, the other with eggs, plus a cup of tea, Lovely!!!
Sounds like a great lunch. I just had marmalade on toast for lunch yesterday.
I like making simple cheese toast. If I have fresh bread, I'll just slice it and spread butter.
My cheese has to be grilled when put on toast.
Say cheese ๐ง
Cheese is best.
@spunkycumfun ๐ง
@bignicktx Melted cheese is even better.
Guess Spunky it would depend on what I felt like eating, sweet or savory? Something sweet would be honey or peach, strawberry, and even apricot jam, and the savory, well bovril, (don't like the flavor of Marmite), thus bovril and thinly sliced cheese on toast! Oh, and I def do enjoy cheesy toasties as well!
I've never had Bovril on toast; I've only had Bovril as a hot drink on a cold day.
I voted for butter but I really enjoy an open face sandwich which is sourdough bread toasted with either hot roast beef and gravy or hot turkey with gravy.
Another great battle you have here my friend, I hope you enjoy your Saturday..
Butter is cool on toast.
Somthing simple: apricot marmalade
I've not tried apricot marmalade. I've just tried orange and lime marmalade.
@spunkycumfun Apricot is very good too, I also love orange and strawberry
@AuraAviatik6 It seems you have a greater range of marmalades than we do here.
@spunkycumfun Ah! well... a lot of different flavours and styles.
Yes, I made plenty of apricot marmalade a couple of weeks ago, it's great!
