After the usual above-the-line shaggable test and customary phone conversation, my partner and I met a couple in their home.
The alcohol flowed and the conversation flowed between us. At the time the other couple were far more experienced at swinging than my partner and I. Towards the end of the evening, they invited us into their bedroom; we were already all half-naked in their lounge.
On the bed, we paired up. My partner went with the male and I went with the female of the other couple. All of us were heterosexual, though when swinging there's always a bit of mingling of bodies.

That's been my experience too. Now I think the first time is probably the best it's going to get if it was a bad time. There's been a few first times when it was good and things got better, but good is far more promising material to work with!
