A cookie platter
In THE BATTLE OF THE JUICES, predictably orange juice won, with pineapple, cranberry, tomato, apple and grapefruit juice coming next in the poll on fruit juices.
Now it's the turn of cookies. It's thought that cookies originated in Persia (now Iran) in the seventh century and gradually spread to Europe and then to North America.
The problem I immediately encountered when compiling this poll is defining what a cookie is. There are significant transatlantic differences over what the term means. Here in Britain, a cookie quite rightly is a particular type of biscuit made from a soft cookie dough. But in America and Canada, a cookie often refers to all types of biscuits. Now I'm going to accept the correct definition, the British definition.
In adopting this definition has the advantage, as being correct, of making the poll far more manageable. A poll on biscuits would be very difficult to compile because there are many different types of biscuits and what type of biscuits get eaten varies significantly between countries. What biscuits are popularly eaten in America, Australia, Brazil, Britain, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and Turkey differ greatly. A poll on biscuits would be an unmanageable and fruitless task; the same applies to a poll on cakes and on confectionery (candies/sweets).
According to Wikipedia, there are different types of cookies such as bar cookies/tray bakes (eg brownies, date squares), breakfast cookies, cookie cakes, drop cookies (eg rock cakes), filled cookies (eg hamantashen), fortune cookies, lactation cookies, low-fat or diet cookies, molded cookies (eg peanut butter cookies, snickerdoodles), no-bake cookies (eg rum balls), pressed cookies (eg spritz cookies), refrigerator cookies, rolled cookies (eg gingerbread men), sandwich cookies (eg baci di dama, Empire biscuits, Jammie Dodgers, Oreos), skillet cookies (aka pizookies), supersized cookies and vegan cookies.
However, this poll is solely about cookie ingredients and not about types of cookies (eg apees cookies, bizcochitos, black and white cookies, Christmas cookies, cowboy cookies, fortune cookies, guyuria, hermit cookies, Joe Froggers, Lebkuchen, Moravian spice cookies, rainbow cookies, rosketti, snickerdoodles, whoopie pies, windmill cookies). I thought all cookies were Maryland cookies, which I've just discovered is a brand name of cookies mainly sold in Britain and the rest of Europe.
Also, just to make things manageable, the poll is only concerned with single ingredients and not combinations of ingredients, so there are no oatmeal raisin cookies nor chocolate cherry cookies as poll option. I'm excluding a few basic ingredients, like baking powder/soda, flour, salt and water, from the list of poll options.
I've never eaten a bad cookie. All cookies are good though some are better than others. My most favourite cookie ingredients are almonds, apricots, blackberries, blueberries, cherries, cinnamon, nutmeg, oats and raspberries, with chocolate being the best cookie ingredient. Chocolate chip cookies always go down a treat in my home, especially by my youngest grandson. He's the Cookie Monster, "Me want cookie!”
Chocolate chip cookies
My least favourite cookie ingredient are cranberries. I just don't like cranberries. Also I don't like fortune cookies; they are as tasteless as the useless bits of paper in them. Having said that though I'd much prefer to eat a cranberry cookie or a fortune cookie than an ookie cookie. Ookie cookie, also known as a soggy biscuit, is a game in which a group of masturbating men standing in a circle ejaculate over a cookie; the last man to ejaculate has to eat the soggy biscuit!
What are your most and least favourite cookie ingredients or cookies generally?
Do you regularly bake your own cookies?
I've never baked cookies because it's easier to buy them from a shop!
Below is a poll where you can anonymously select your most favourite cookie. Unfortunately only one pick is allowed in the poll.
Because a poll on this site can only have a maximum of 20 answer options, there was no room as poll options for: allspice, anise (including aniseed), apricot , banana, blackberry, blackcurrants, brandy, butterscotch, caramel, caraway seeds, cardamoms, carrot, cashew nuts, cider (aka apple cider), cloves, coconut, coriander, cornflakes, dates, egg, figs, fudge, hazelnuts, Kirsch, lemon, lokum (aka Turkish delight), marshmallow, meringue, mung beans, nutmeg, orange, pecan nuts, pineapple, pine nuts, pistachios, poppy seeds, redcurrants, rose water, rum, sesame seeds, walnuts and white pepper. Unfortunately that's the way the cookie crumbles! But there is always the 'other' option for those cookie ingredients not listed in the poll. Hopefully I've covered all the popular cookie ingredients as poll options.
I think chocolate will easily win, but blueberry, butter, ginger, oats, peanut butter, raspberry and syrup will attract votes in the poll.
Please see the first comment below to see what has won each battle of the food and drinks so far.

I voted for oatmeal because my favorite cookies are Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, or Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. As a matter of fact I am going to be making some Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies real soon here.
I have to say I don't bake them from scratch as much as I used to, but I buy the already made ones you can take home and bake, or the mix cookies that you add eggs and water and bake.
Another great battle my friend, and I hope you enjoy a relaxing Sunday..
Good choice. I love oatmeal in biscuits and cakes. And I love porridge too.
I voted for butter because most cookies I know need butter in them to make them smooth and flavorful.
Butter is a good choice. Thanks for stopping by to vote.

Macadamia Nuts & White chocolate
That sounds like a great combination in a cookie. Thanks for stopping by.
My favorite for 63 years has been the chocolate chip cookies, but being a diabetic I shouldn’t have them . But a few years ago I went to an Amish store and found monster cookies and bought a dozen, and omg they are a chocolate chip cookie on steroids!!!
Those chocolate chip cookies sounded magical.
You can't go wrong with chocolate chip cookies (and you really should learn to bake them at home, they're SO much better).
I'm also a fan of oatmeal butterscotch.
I've never come across anyone here who bakes their own cookies. It seems it's an American tradition.
Chocolate chip was always my favorite, until the acid reflux started up. Now, I just LOVE peanut butter cookies. OR, my stepmother's recipe for Sugar cookies, made with powdered sugar. Yes, we both bake at our house! I go a little overboard at Christmas.
There's nothing wrong with going overboard at Xmas especially when it concerns food and presents!
I’m like oatmeal raisin cookies the most, but also enjoy the peanut butter and chocolate chip ones. 😄
I love oats in any dish including soup.
I love lemon cookies but had to vote for chocolate. It is a serious mood lifter
Chocolate never lets you down!
White Chocolate, Macadamia Nuts, Marijuana
I've never had a hash cookie, sounds good though.
Ingredients like: chocolate, honey, cinnamon, raisons, butter Voted cinnamon. Not into baking.
I'm not into baking either, not least I can't bake!
If it doesn't have chocolate it ain't dessert
That's a very reasonable motto!
My current favorite add-in is toffee bits. But my favorite cookie changes with my mood. I rarely buy cookies, preferring to make my own. I share the cookies that I bake with my local fire station. My maple-glazed shortbread cookies caused a "sugar coma" the first time and I now put a warning on the package.
I missed toffee in my poll. Apologies.
I voted for ginger - if I open a pack I can't stop. Best if they are extra crisp and brittle.
A very close second are barazek, Syrian sesame cookies. They too are crisp and crunchy.
They remind me of my childhood in Damascus. Today Athens has a fair share of Syrian refugees some of whom have opened bakeries and pastry shops, and so barazek are no longer a distant memory. The thing is that nowadays the cookie is made small, about 3 to 4cm wide, whereas the barazek I remember were about 8 cm or more wide, an extra large cookie by today's standard.
Least favorites are any with fruit.
I make excellent chocolate chip cookies. My secret is to freeze them after they have cooled and keep frozen until ready to serve. Even if you are going to eat them the same day, they are better if frozen first. Second tip is to use baker's chocolate hand cut into chip size chunks, not commercial prepared chocolate chips.
I've not come across barazek. Syria is a country that I'd love to visit. It's probably not wise to go now but hopefully one day things will change.
I read through your list and went and took my diabetes meds as I’m sure my sugar spiked just reading. My favorite is cookie, which means all of the above. I just prefer them to be on the soft side, not a hard crispy cookie. I don’t like all the crumbs as evidence of my indulging. Maybe it is an American thing as I love baking cookies. But then you need to eat them which is a no no for me. Actually most baking is fun, but not when you can only look.
The best cookies are soft and chewy.
@spunkycumfun You have good taste my man
@Terracamo814 We both have good taste.
I love ALL kinds of cookies; it would be too hard to pick one, or its ingredient. However, I think I found a way to get around this limitation by voting Other.
I'm not a chef or baker, but I do believe most, if not all, cookies require flour. And that is my other -- flour. And flour is found in all of my favourite cookies. YUM!!
Voting 'other' is always a useful escape from making difficult choices!
I can not go wrong with chocolate, whether it is a chocolate chip or chunk
There's no such thing as bad chocolate!
Not a big fan of add-ins, plain digestives or tea biccies are prob my go to. Having said that, I could eat a double pack of custard creams in one sitting, with relative ease . . .
Custard creams, as well as Bourbons, are irresistible!
Not very original: chocolate
One can never go wrong with chocolate!
Ugggghhhh spunky. thanks for writing this post WHEN I CANT HAVE COOKIES! i love cookies
I'm giving you healthy virtual cookies to eat. I hope you like ookie cookies!
What are your most and least favourite cookie ingredients or cookies generally? - I'm not really a huge sweets eater, including cookies, but voted for peanut butter as my favorite. While I do eat cranberries (dried, in salads) I don't think I've ever had a cranberry cookie.
Do you regularly bake your own cookies? - No.
I don't think cranberry cookies are too popular. I just wanted to have 20 poll options. I suspect only a handful of ingredients will attract nearly all the votes.
