In THE BATTLE OF SALAD DRESSING, blue cheese dressing and ranch dressing jointly won, with balsamic vinaigrette, Italian dressing/vinaigrette and thousand island dressing coming next in the poll on salad dressings. Voting is still open if anyone wants to break the stalemate.
This is my last poll. After nearly 80 polls, starting over three years ago and posted fortnightly, this is the end of the series of polls about foods and drinks. Though perhaps incongruous on a so-called sex site, these blog posts have consistently yielded the most engagement on my blog, far more engagement than posts about my girlfriends and swinging moments!
However, voting turnout varied considerably throughout the series of polls. The poll that attracted the most votes was THE BATTLE OF THE NUTS - 437 votes were cast in a poll about nuts! In fact, pistachio nuts the poll runner-up with 104 votes attracted more votes than most winners of other polls. Both American coffee won THE BATTLE OF THE COFFEES and vanilla yogurt won THE BATTLE OF THE YOGURTS with just six votes!
It's been quite a culinary education compiling these polls, and I'm thankful for a few bloggers, especially @EnigmaInitiative, in helping me with these geeky polls.
There have been polls I cannot meaningfully do, for example, polls about biscuits, breakfast cereals, cakes, confectionery, sausages and takeaway meals, because there are just too many differences between and within countries to have a meaningful poll.
By far the most difficult poll I compiled (even with expert help) was the poll on whisky/whiskey - see THE BATTLE OF WHISKY. I was pleased that 'other' rarely won a poll. Often if 'other' wins, it's a sign of a badly designed poll in not including popular options. For only two polls, THE BATTLE OF THE OFFAL and THE BATTLE OF THE COFFEES, did 'other' win but because only a few votes were involved I interpreted 'other' as not liking offal and coffee. Stupidly I edited one poll, THE BATTLE OF THE BEANS, and lost all the votes cast. Fortunately I kept a note of the votes and I was very confident that green beans won the poll.
I did make a few mistakes. For example, I stupidly omitted to include strawberries in won THE BATTLE OF THE FRUITS, but I'm confident won as it attracted more votes than 'other'. Controversially I included pizza as a savoury pie and duly won THE BATTLE OF THE SAVOURY PIE. My dumbest poll was THE BATTLE OF THE CABBAGE in which I included non-cabbages like broccoli the poll winner.
This last poll is the battle of all battles to determine what food or drink is the overall winner in the series, as it's the last poll it's the battle to end all battles! This is a fun poll. It's not a methodologically sound poll as it's not comparing like with like and polls weren't designed for such a final poll. There's no need for an 'other' option as I'm including the 20 most popular foods and drinks in previous polls. By popular, I mean foods and drinks that won two or more polls (like bananas, barbecue sauce, beef, butter, cheese, chocolate, strawberries and vanilla) and winning foods and drinks with the most votes (like burgers, cashew nuts, coffee, cow milk, cream, dry red wine, iced tea, maple syrup, olive oil, ribeye steak, sunflower seeds and whisky/whiskey). Dark chocolate, by votes cast, should have been included but isn't because chocolate is included. Please spare a thought for cashew nuts which came second in the poll on nuts with over a hundred votes, more than eight winners listed in the poll. C'est la vie! Also bacon, beer, chicken, chips/fries, garlic, rice, salmon and watermelon didn't make the cut.
Unlike with previous polls, I'm allowing multiple picks as this is the last showdown poll. My insistence in past polls of only allowing one pick was a frequent bugbear for many people voting. For this poll, the shackles are off, fill your boots!
A cheeseboard:
My ten most favourite foods and drinks are bacon, Brussels sprouts, cheese, chocolate, coffee, dry white wine, fillet steak, pizza, roast potatoes and sausages. My favourite item of food would be a toss up between cheese and chocolate, but I'll go with cheese, and my favourite drink would also be a toss up between coffee and dry white wine, but I'll opt for the wine.
My ten least favourite foods and drinks are Bombay duck, calamari, celery, cheesecake, cider, cockles, cranberry sauce, kidneys, roast pork and sweet wine.
What are your most and least favourite foods and drinks?
What is your perfect three-course meal? And what drink would you have with the meal?
The perfect three-course meal for me would be a prawn cocktail to start, a prawn Ceylon with plain boiled rice as the main course with saag aloo as a side dish, followed by tiramisu as a dessert. All washed down with a fine French dry white wine. I'm not sure that meal would work well in terms of balance, but I'll stand by my choices.
Below is a poll in which you can anonymously select your most favourite foods and drinks from the list of 20 most popular foods and drinks according to polls. As mentioned, multiple picks are allowed in the poll.
Because a poll on this site can only have a maximum of 20 answer options, unfortunately there was no room as poll options for these poll winners, presented in order of votes cast: dark chocolate (chocolate winner), pepperoni (the pizza toppings winner), watermelon (the melons winner), rice (the grains winner), baked/jacket potatoes (the potato winner), orange juice (the juices winner), salmon (the fishes winner), bacon sandwich (the sandwich winner), honeycrisp apple (the apples winner), garlic (the spices winner), sourdough bread (the breads winner), American Bourbon whiskey (whisky winner), cherry jelly/jello (jelly winner), green tea (the teas winner), blue cheese dressing and ranch dressing (joint salad dressing winners), salad (the side dish winner), apple pie (the sweet pie winner), flaky/flakey pastry (the pastry winner), chicken wings (hot finger foods winner), pizza (the savoury pie winner), lettuce (the salad ingredient winner), cow milk hard cheese (the cheese winner), portobello mushrooms (the mushrooms winner), pumpkin pie (the pumpkin winner), blueberry muffin (the muffins winner), tomato-based pasta sauce (the hot saucy dips winner), romaine lettuce (the lettuces winner), stout (the beers winner), basil (the herbs winner), broccoli (the cabbage winner), Brussels sprouts (the vegetables winner), roast turkey (Christmas foods dinner), salted peanuts (the peanuts winner), clam chowder (the soups winner), vanilla ice cream (the dessert accompaniments winner), capellini/angel's hair (the pastas winner), tap water (the water winner), jasmine rice (the rice winner), steak (the barbecue winner), beefsteak tomatoes (the tomatoes winner), Caesar salad (the salads winner), cheesecake (the puddings winner), crab (the shellfish winner), liver (the offal winner), Old Fashioned (the cocktails winner), Americano coffee (the coffees winner), and green beans (the beans winner).
I think this poll will be a battle between cheese and chocolate, a battle between the savoury and sweet taste buds in our tongue, but I think chocolate will win out! Who doesn't like chocolate?!
Please see the first comment below to see what has won each battle of the food and drinks.

From the poll I selected olive oil, cheese and chocolate.
I would add herbs - basil, parsley, mint, oregano - flavors I consider essential to my cooking, even to sandwiches.
Unfortunately no herb got enough votes in previous polls to be included. I'm slightly shocked that ribeye steak is winning but I guess Americans like their steaks!
It's a pity that you won't be doing polls anymore.
Too bad ice cream wasn't on the list. But I did choose chocolate and steak.
I've run out of foods and drinks to do more polls.
3 course meal ... Salad with a variety of greens and veggies topped with crisp onions, bacon bits and honey mustard dressing. Steak and baked spud (butter, bacon, chives). Third course is tough. I am usually stuffed full of food by this time. Lemon dessert of some sort. Something light.
My fav go to lately is a bowl with protein, tons of veggies and salsa. So good!!!
Least fav is fish. Ugh.
I like fish provided its head is cut off before it reaches my plate!
Most favorite food & drink... lobster and whiskey. There are many close second place contenders but lobster and a good bourbon or single malt wins the top spots.
Least? Meatloaf and Gin. I grew up having to eat terrible homemade meatloaf and now I can't even stomach the "good" ones. Gin is like licking a pine tree.
Three course meal? Foie gras, Lobsters with drawn butter, and a pecan pie for dessert.
I've never eaten lobster. though I've tried a lobster bisque which was good.
I chose a few things, BUT, this made me realize that I prefer a steak over burger, and whiskey over wine. Dang. These polls are good. Thanks for all the past ones!
I'm going to miss doing these polls. They were quite a culinary education.
I voted for many things, just for the hell of it. Notable omissions - bananas, ribeye steak, sunflower seeds, and whiskey.
All those omissions were included in the poll.
@spunkycumfun no I meant that I didn’t vote for them.
@smartasswoman I've got you now.
Voted #3 down from the top.
Beef is doing well in the poll.
Red wine... well-: "Rioja reserva" red wine
Is that food? or drink? because it has a lot of calories LOL
It's a great shame that wine is calorific!
What are your most and least favorite foods and drinks? - Most would likely be seafood, but a good steak is close behind. Least likely brussel sprouts, though recently they came with the meal, were roasted, and not TOO horrible.
What is your perfect three-course meal? And what drink would you have with the meal? - Surf and turf! (Had a version of that for BREAKFAST on the cruise - lobster meat over tenderloin.) A simple white wine would be good with that, though not at breakfast. 😂
I love roasted Brussels sprouts and even boiled Brussels sprouts.
hot pic
This is another fascinating poll but none of my favorites were on here today. So I am going with Mexican Food and for Drink that would be Cherry Pepsi. So I didn't get to vote today as you forgot to put other..
I hope you enjoy a thrilling Thursday my friend..
A lot of my favourites weren't on the poll either.
