Back in Ye Olden Tymes (aka the 70s) I went on my first blind date. He was the son of a coworker and I was not brave enough to say, "No, thanks." Especially to someone in my parent's age bracket. Evidently, he couldn't say "No" to his mom, either. We didn't click but the date wasn't awful. The important part, though, is that I knew it would be safe.
Jump ahead 20 years and I go on another blind date. He was the friend of friends. I would have preferred meeting him, spontaneously, at their place but we all had such different work schedules that I agreed to have my phone number given. I ended up marrying the guy. The important part, again, was that I knew it would be safe.
On-line dating is very similar to a blind date but with more of a risk. You are still meeting a stranger but one that you've had to filter yourself. No safety net of knowing that someone you trust is recommending them. Meeting someone from this site is inherently riskier than a traditional site. You make sure that you meet in public, hoping your judgment is sound. In the 15 years that I've been doing on-line dating, only once did I feel that I escaped a threat.
Today, I got an message from a woman. She lives in another state but her dad lives near me and she thought he'd like me. Her details and her dad's details are totally unimportant. There is no way I would ever meet a stranger recommended by some out-of-the-blue stranger.
I may be crazy but I'm not the lunatic she was looking for.
side note Looking at her profile a bit more thoroughly, she's only been here for 5 days. Her body pictures don't look like a 53 year old person who has given birth to 4 children. I can smell the scam wafting in my direction.

I can certainly see how the aroma of a scam would be pretty strong. My first impression when you said you got the message from a woman was that it would have been from someone you have, if not met, then passed comments etc for some time and felt you had a handle on who she was. Hearing it was a stranger I to got the sense of a scam.
BTW, I agree that you are a bit crazy but it is in such a delightful way. People who are somewhat crazy are often very interesting and so worth getting to know which you most certainly are. I believe a more civilized word for our kind of crazy is excentric.

Seems unusual for sure! I recall once getting a message here from a guy who wanted to fix me up with his friend. He did a great job of talking him up but the whole thing was a little too weird for me.
I had one of those guy friend things once. I reported him. This gal ... it was just odd.
