With thanksgiving being less than two weeks away..

I thought I would discuss how thanksgiving used to be and how it is now

My husband was always a functioning drug user.He was probably an addict

Before he went into the downward spiral, we had a lovely life

But it was one that worked me to death

Thanksgiving

I always make sure my house was spotless.There wasn't a speck of dirt anywhere to be found

Always make sure the bathrooms have the good guest house in there.And the fancy soaps

I'm always made sure there was candles lia everywhere that smelled like autumn

I would start cooking a week before

My menu included

Herd roasted turkey

Pineapple and brown sugar ham

Fried chicken

Chicken and dumplings

Homemade cornbread dressing

And then there was the potato menu

Mashed potatoes with gravy, hash brown casserole, potato salad, sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, sweet potato casserole with pecans

And then they were the casserole side dishes
Baked corn casserole, green bean casserole, broccoli and cheese casserole & pineapple casserole

Then, there was either fresh green beans or what we call shucky beans, which were dried green beans these take so much longer to cook

There was baked beans, macaroni salad coleslaw. Broccoli salad

Ohh and I forgot the cheese ball to start the meal with & deviled eggs

My husband made the cranberry salad

And thank god for sister shebert royals, but I made the homemade honey better

And then there were the desserts

Snicker salad

Peanut butter pie

Homemade pumpkin pie.

Homemade pecan pie

Homemade apple pie

Homemade chocolate cake with chocolate icing

There was usually a coconut cake which I made from scratch

Then there was the stack cake

Which is between 8 & 12 thin layers of gingerbread that is served with homemade apple butter in between on the sides and on top

None of these dishes were served in metal containers or plastic.Every one of them was served in a beautiful serving dish

My family never ate a meal off of a paper plate or used a plastic for

And no I did not have a dishwasher

That was so much work on me.And I can't even imagine how much it would cost to cook that now

And I enjoyed it

But now it has got a lot simpler

Brown sugar pineapple baked ham, garlic parmesan mashed potatoes, cornbread dressing, whatever frozen vegetable is in there. Sister schubert rolls canned cranberry sauce

And I don't even know if i'm going to make dessert at my house

My best friend has to work thanksgiving day.So i'm going to her house to cook.I will be making her roasted turkey, pineapple.Brown sugar, ham, plain mashed potatoes, cornbread, dressing macaroni and cheese, corn and green beans.Some sister Schubert rolls and her daughter is going to make a cheesecake and some oreo stuff.The night before

I have gained ten pounds from this

And I'm exhausted.
